Srinagar, Aug 9: National Investigation Agency (NIA) today searched five more locations in Kashmir in connection with Jamaat-e-Islami militancy funding case.
The raids were conducted a day after the NIA searched 56 locations in connection with the same case
The NIA said that today in continuation of the searches conducted against JeI yesterday, they along with J&K Police and CRPF conducted searches at five places in district Bandipora in case RC-03/2021/NIA/DLI.
“Searches conducted today included the premises of office bearers and members of the association, JeI. During the searches, various incriminating documents and electronic devices were seized from the premises of the suspects,” the statement said. “Further investigation in the case continues.”
The NIA yesterday carried out the biggest ever crackdown in Kashmir against Jamat-e-Islami leaders at 56 locations across Jammu and Kashmir.
The raids were conducted at 56 locations in J&K linked to Jamat-e-Islami leaders including four former heads of the banned religious organization.
The raids were conducted this morning after several NIA teams arrived in Srinagar for the last 10 days and they had booked around 140 vehicles for carrying out such raids. They were assisted by Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF.
The raids were conducted at the residences of Jamat leaders including the former Ameers of JeI.
The NIA said a case was registered on February 5, 2021 in pursuance of an order from the Ministry of Home Affairs relating to separatist and secessionist activities of the JeI despite its proscription on February 28, 2019.
It said the members of the organisation have been collecting funds domestically and from abroad through donations particularly in the form of ‘Zakat, Mowda and Bait-ul-Mal’ purportedly to further charity and other welfare activities but these funds are instead being used for violent and secessionist activities.
“The funds raised by the JeI are also being channelised to proscribed terrorist organisations such as Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and others through well organised networks of JeI cadres.
“The JeI has also been motivating impressionable youths of Kashmir and recruiting new members (Rukuns) in J&K to participate in disruptive secessionist activities,” an NIA spokesperson said on Sunday.
