NIF explores Valley’s growth with innovation, entrepreneurship

Srinagar, Nov 10: The experts assembled here today for a roundtable organized by the National Innovation Foundation (NIF) – India, an autonomous body of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, to discuss ways to onboard stakeholders, primarily the enablers for the Innovation and Entrepreneurship ecosystem in the valley
Stakeholders from multiple organizations deliberated on a roadmap to enhance growth and development through innovation and entrepreneurship. They aimed to leverage the untapped potential of Jammu and Kashmir, addressing major challenges and drawing lessons from key milestones achieved.
The discussion took place at a day-long roundtable titled “Inclusive Development through Entrepreneurial Advancement (IDEA).”
“The time has come when entrepreneurs with the support of eco-system builders can push their boundaries to grow exponentially and in this process could harness their own potential in superior ways,” said Dr Vipin Kumar, Chief Scientist, NIF.
Dr Praveen Roy, Head of the NEB Division at the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, emphasized that modern-day startups prioritize pivoting their businesses instead of categorizing changes as failures.
Chetan Krishnaswamy, Vice President of Public Policy at Amazon India, highlighted that the vibrant J&K region harbours entrepreneurs with the potential to create leading global brands, particularly through flagship programs like Karigar, Saheli, and Global Selling.
Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, Registrar at the University of Kashmir, acquainted participants with the recent significant initiatives taken by the University to bolster innovation in the valley.
Grassroots innovators discussed their achievements and the challenges they face in scaling their businesses.
Representing the formal sector, GR8 SPORTS India and other entrepreneurs expressed the increasing expectations they have from the Government, particularly in terms of improving the ease of doing business.
