SRINAGAR, Apr 2:
Night temperature remained below normal while people continued to enjoy pleasant weather during the day in the Kashmir valley, where weather will remain dry during the next 24 hours.
A MeT department spokesman said today evening that weather will remain dry in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. However, during the subsequent two days there is possibility of scattered light rain and thundershowers in the Union Territory (UT).
However, he issued warning for thundershowers, lightening and 30 km to 40 km gusty winds in the Kashmir valley and Jammu region on April 5 and 6. He said night temperature remained blow normal and world famous ski resort of Gulmarg was coldest at minus 2.8 degree.
The summer capital, Srinagar, where Asia’s largest Tulip garden on the foot of Zabarwan hills overlooking famed Dal lake witnessed heavy rush of local and outside State tourists, recorded 19.6 degree maximum temperature today which was 1.9 notches above normal.
However, the minimum temperature was 4.8 degree which was 1.6 notches below normal. The minimum temperature at Gulmarg, a major attraction for tourists, skiers and other adventure lovers, was coldest in the Valley at minus 2.6 degree which was 1.8 degree below normal. This, however, will help slow melting of snow on the ski slopes. The maximum temperature today was 9.5 degree which was 2.6 degree above normal.
Pahalgam, a famed health resort in south Kashmir, about 100 km from here, recorded 0.7 degree minimum temperature, one notch below normal. The day temperature there was 14.8 degree, 0.2 degree above normal. The water level in river Lidder passing through Pahalgam has witnessed some increase during the past one week. Kupwara, in north Kashmir was relatively warmer in the Valley after the maximum temperature surge and settled at 20.7 degree, three notches above normal. However, the minimum temperature was 0.5 degree, 4.7 notches below normal.
Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway recorded 19.1 degree maximum temperature while the minimum temperature was 4.7 degree, which was 0.4 degree below normal. Leh in UT of Ladakh, the minimum temperature was minus 4.4 degree while the maximum temperature today was 2.1 degree.
At border town of Kargil the maximum temperature was 10.5 degree and night temperature minus 4 degree. (UNI)
