JAMMU, July 23: Lt Gen RR Nimbhorkar today took charge of prestigious 16 Corps at Nagrota from Lt Gen KH Singh, who has been posted as Commandant of Infantry School, Mhow in Madhya Pradesh.
Coming with rich experience of his service background in Jammu and Kashmir, Lt Gen Nimbhorkar has rare distinction of having served in all three Corps—14, 15 and 16 in Jammu and Kashmir in different capacities apart from the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB).
He has commanded Victor Force and Nowshera Brigade and worked in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu region, South Kashmir and North Kashmir apart from higher altitudes of Kargil. This is his seventh tenure in Jammu and Kashmir.
Commissioned in 15 Punjab at Patiala, a 310 years old battalion, Lt Gen Nimbhorkar is highly decorated officer with several Medals to his credit and is Colonel of the Regiment of Punjab.
The General’s rich experience in handling situations along LoC and hinterland was most required today as Pakistan was making desperate attempts to push infiltrators into this side from the LoC in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
Meanwhile, outgoing GOC Lt Gen KH Singh told reporters that Pakistan military is supporting and helping militants in infiltration from across the LoC.
“Pakistan Army’s role in supporting these elements is a matter of concern but the Army is on alert and keeping a watch,’’ he said.
He added that around 150 to 190 militants are waiting at the launching pads across the border from Sialkot to upper belts.
“The militants are desperate to sneak into this side of the border but security forces are on alert and will foil all their nefarious designs,’’ Lt Gen Singh said, adding that the militants were trying to take advantage of Monsoon rains to sneak into this side but their attempts have been foiled by the troops.
The General officer has attended various career courses in India and abroad including the prestigious National Defence College. Also, the General officer has served in varied operational staff appointments in his more than three decades of illustrious service.
On taking over, Lt Gen Nimbhorkar paid floral tributes to the martyrs at Ashwamedh Shaurya Sthal. He exhorted all ranks of White Knight Corps to continue work with the same zeal and enthusiasm and be always ready to combat.
