Nine food vendors challaned by Food Safety team

JAMMU, July 17: Nine food vendors were challaned today by a Food Safety team of Municipal Limits Jammu for violation of Food Safety rules.
The drive was conducted by a Food Safety team led by Dr Parvesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Municipal Limits, Jammu on the direction of Commissioner FDA, J&K. During the drive, various milk vendors and sweet sellers at Shahidi Chowk, Jewel, Bakshi Nagar, Bus stand and Gangyal were inspected by the Food Safety team, which challaned 9 vendors under insanitary and unhygienic conditions and other contraventions of Food Safety & Standards Act 2006.
Amongst those challaned were M/s Sanju Tea Stall and M/s Radha Swami Tea Stall at Trikuta Complex, Sweets Shop of Mohan Lal and Sweets Shop of Rattan Lal at Municipality Market, Bakshi Nagar, M/s Ess Kay Food Industry Gangyal, and four vendors were challaned at Jewel Chowk.
Moreover, samples of milk, packaged drinking water, mustard oil, momos (cooked food), bakery items etc were lifted and sent to the Food Testing Laboratory Jammu for ascertaining standard of purity.
Moreover, M/s Guru Kirpa Sweets, Sweets shop of Mohan Lal and Sweets shop of Rattan Lal at Bakshi Nagar, Jammu and Ess Kay Food Industry Gangyal were directed to stop their commercial activities till further order as their infrastructures and hygiene were not upto satisfactory level.
A Langer for Amarnath pilgrims was also inspected and suggestion and directions were provided to them. Further, all the food vendors were warned not to prepare unhealthy food otherwise legal action shall be initiated against them. They advised public to check each and every eatable before they consume.
The team was comprised of Food Safety Officers Ajay Khajuria, Daleep Singh, Hans Raj Andotra and Pervaiz Ahmed.
