Nine gamblers held

JAMMU, May 28: Police claimed today that they have arrested nine gamblers and recovered Rs 3, 30, 000 as stake money from their possession.
A police spokesperson said that a team of Police Station Janipur led by SDPO West Vikram Singh assisted by SHO Janipur Inspector Sikandar Singh while on patrolling duty received an information regarding some people gambling in a house at Sultanpura, Janipur area.
Accordingly, he said, police teams raided the suspected location and caught five gamblers along with Rs 3 lakhs of stake money and one deck of playing cards.
On this, he said, police have registered a case under sections 3/4 of the Gambling Act at Janipur Police Station and arrested the accused identified as Tassaduq Ahmed Munshi of Srinagar at present Sultanpura, Jammu, Mohammad Sultan Mir of Srinagar at present Sunjwan, Jammu, Abdul Majeed Lone of Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar, Aijaz Ahmed Sheikh of Bemina, Srinagar, and Samundar Khan of Kupwara, Kashmir.
Meanwhile, another police team of RS Pura led by SDPO RS Pura Nikhil Gogna assisted by SHO RS Pura, Inspector Pawan Kumar while on naka duty received an information regarding gambling in Village Tohana Tibba, near Poultry Farm under the jurisdiction of RS Pura Police Station.
On this, police team raided the suspected location and arrested four gamblers along with stake money of Rs 30,000 and one deck of playing cards.
Police have booked the accused under section 13 of the Gambling Act at RS Pura Police Station. They have been identified as Krishan Singh, Pawan Singh, Pawan Singh, Arjun Singh, and Ajay Kumar, all residents of Satraiyan, RS Pura.
Further investigation is on in both the cases.
