ITANAGAR, Mar 28: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman  praised Arunachal Pradesh’s development trajectory and  assured continued central support to the frontier state.

“The progress happening in Arunachal Pradesh is truly commendable. The central government remains committed to supporting the state’s growth, ensuring that every city and town develops into a model of urban excellence,” she said.

Sitharaman also assured all possible assistance from the Finance Ministry to help Arunachal Pradesh realise its full potential.

The Finance Minister gave this assurance when Arunachal Pradesh Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Minister Balo Raja, along with Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) Mayor Tamme Phassang, met her in New Delhi on Friday to discuss ongoing and future developmental projects in the state.

During the meeting, Minister Raja and Mayor Phassang expressed their gratitude to the BJP-led central government for its unwavering commitment to Arunachal Pradesh’s progress. Raja noted that the Northeastern states, particularly Arunachal Pradesh, have witnessed unprecedented development since 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He pointed out that years of underdevelopment were being rapidly addressed through strategic planning, increased funding, and efficient execution of projects.

He urged the Union Minister to allocate additional funds to accelerate and complete pending developmental projects under both central and state government schemes. The Minister  stressed that continued financial assistance would be crucial in enhancing infrastructure, urban planning, and civic amenities across the state.

Mayor Phassang also apprised Sitharaman about Itanagar’s urban development initiatives, underscoring the state’s commitment to modernizing urban infrastructure. He called for increased financial backing to support the city’s rapid expansion and developmental needs.

Earlier in the day,  the Minister and Mayor met Additional Secretary, Finance, Dr SS Yadav, who also appreciated Arunachal Pradesh’s progress and assured all possible assistance to bolster its development.

This high-level engagement reaffirms the central government’s focus on strengthening urban infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh, ensuring the state’s cities and towns continue evolving into modern, well-planned urban centers with world-class facilities.
