Srinagar, June 26: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar today held a meeting of the Building and Works Committee (BWC) with the Ministry of Education in which the committee recommended various projects for approval including the construction of a new health centre at the campus.
The meeting was virtually attended by D.K. Singh, Dy Secretary, Integrated Finance Division (IFD), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India.
During the meeting, Singh was briefed about the works done in NIT Srinagar during the past year and new proposals in the pipeline and various other things were also discussed during the meeting.
On the occasion, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Rakesh Sehgal being the chairman of the BWC presided over the meeting and discussed works done during the stage 2020-21 and other projects in the pipeline.
The agenda of the meeting was presented by Registrar NIT Srinagar Professor Kaiser Bukhari and member secretary of BWC.
Prof. Sehgal said for 2021-2022, they have a total budget of 1.5 cr in which some works were already shortlisted and new works in the minor works category.
“The BWC endorsed the proposal for approval for Up-gradation of high voltage laboratory of Electrical Engineering Department, roofing over generator set, workshop, roofing of Hydro Biology Laboratory of WRMC and other works of renovation in the departments. It was decided that if the ministry approves funds to these works will be completed on priority,” he said.
Director NIT Srinagar said apart from these works, they are also planning for the construction of another health centre at NIT Srinagar as the existing centre is located in a low lying area adjacent to the sewerage line of Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA), which remains inundated during raining seasons.
He also briefed that their existing machinery at the health centre including the X-ray plant, Dental, Physiotherapy section is at the risk following unhygienic condition of the health centre. Now we are planning to construct a new health centre at a better location,” he said.
The meeting was attended by Dean Planning & Development, NIT Srinagar Prof. Bashir Ahmed Mir. Rahul Gupta, Executive Engineer, CPWD, Ajit Kumar, SE CPWD and Former, Chief Town Planner Kashmir, Fayaz A. Khan, Executive Engineer (Civil).
