NITI Aayog’s directives

The Government of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has issued a directive to all Administrative Secretaries to promptly address the concerns raised by the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog and submit a compliance report to the Chief Secretary’s office. It is worth noting that NITI Aayog is responsible for formulating a shared vision for national development priorities, sectors, and strategies, with active involvement from states and Union Territories. It designs strategic, long-term policy frameworks and initiatives, monitoring their progress and effectiveness. NITI Aayog is entrusted with the crucial responsibility of monitoring and evaluating progress. NITI Aayog’s proactive approach to consistently communicating corrective measures to UT departments, coupled with the stipulated deadlines for their implementation, deserves commendation.
Regrettably, multiple departments, including Social Welfare, Health, Works, Housing, and Urban Development, among others, have failed to follow NITI Aayog’s directives. Notably, Aayog’s observations regarding malnutrition and other health issues concerning women and children are of paramount significance, with a concentrated focus on advancing the healthcare infrastructure within the UT. Moreover, addressing technological innovations to sustain development during the harsh winter months is crucial. Robust mass transportation systems stand as pivotal catalysts for the substantial progress of the UT. The imperative focus on fostering start-ups by the Industry Department and ensuring sustainable growth in tourism and horticulture requires immediate attention from the UT administration. These identified impediments must be promptly rectified to maintain the momentum of development. The Chief Secretary’s directive to adhere to NITI Aayog’s recommendations is well-founded. UT’s sustained growth remains the top priority, and every directive from NITI Aayog holds immense value and must be diligently followed. Aayog’s astute focus on this facet is indeed well-placed, offering a repository of invaluable recommendations. Many of these recommendations have previously found successful implementation in other states and UTs, underscoring their practicality and efficacy. Local administration must align itself harmoniously with these directives, demonstrating unwavering cooperation and adherence. Only through this synchronised collaboration can the UT secure enduring advancements and foster comprehensive development.
