NMC urges PM to declare ‘May Day’ as gazetted holiday

JAMMU, Apr 12: National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) today urged upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare ‘May Day’ as a gazetted holiday throughout the country under Negotiable Instrument Act as a befitting tribute to May Day martyrs.
“Because of the May Day martyrs, the working class got their rights throughout the world and India being the largest and most vibrant democracy across the globe and frontline welfare State should also declare May 1 as gazette holiday”, said NMC president, Subhash Shastri, while interacting with media persons here. He said that this will be a great gesture and will fulfill the most genuine and long-pending demands of the working class.
He said that the then Government led by VP Singh had declared May Day as a gazetted holiday in the country in 1990, then why it has not been done there after.
Shastri also called upon the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, to formulate policy in which DA installment are released in favor of its employees and pensioners simultaneously with Central Government employees.
He demanded an early release of another pending installment of DA due from January this year as the Central as well as several State Governments have already released it in favour its employees.
Shastri also emphasize the need to adopt a comprehensive policy to regularize the services of 61000 daily rated workers working in the various departments of the State Government till March 2016 so that new regularization could become operational from May 1, as a Gift to the families of the working class.
