JAMMU, Jan 12: National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) today appealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release the pending installment of 4 per cent DA due from January 1, 2020 for Central/State/UT employees and pensioners in view of increasing inflation and prices hike of essential commodities.
Stating that price index which was 6.89 per cent in June 30 last year increased to 12.49 per cent in December 31, 2019. NMC president Subhash Shastri while addressing a well attended workers meet here, urged the PM to take decision in this regard at the forthcoming meeting so that salaried class and pensioners would get sigh of relief from rising prices and inflation.
“The rate of compensation was revised every six months based on average of the consumer price index for previous months and this would be the 7th biannual increase since the recommendation of the 7th Pay Commission which was accepted by the Central Government in 2016.” Shastri said.
Expressing deep concern over the delay in accepting the recommendations of Ashok Lavasa committee report, Shastri said it will be a major issue in the upcoming election of Delhi Assembly. He said the employees and pensioners constitute sizeable voter constituencies in Delhi Assembly and these Assembly segments can be determining factor in the electoral consideration.
The NMC president also urged the PM to declare both Jammu and Srinagar as A-1 Cities, adding giving the A-1 status to both capital cities would ensure more flow of funds to upgrade infrastructure and modernize civic amenities.
Implementation of all Central Labour Laws in UT of Jammu & Kashmir, setting up of Labor Welfare Board, enhancing medical allowance to Rs 1000 per month for J&K pensioners, releasing all pending wages of daily rated workers, etc were other demands highlighted in the meeting.
