HYDERABAD, Apr 3: National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), India’s leading iron ore producer, has achieved a production milestone of 41.22 million tonnes (MnT) in Financial Year 2023 (FY23), marking the second consecutive year of crossing this threshold.
As per a statement, the company produced 14.29 MnT in Q4 and 5.6 MnT in March 2023, making it the best-ever Q4 and March month production in the company’s history.
“Despite the highest-ever rainfall of 622 cm in the Bailadila region, NMDC sold 38.25 million tonnes of iron ore in the fiscal year,” said the press statement.
It further said that NMDC used vision enhancement technology to mitigate foggy weather and employed specialized mine liners to prevent jams. Additionally, it utilized water absorbent polymers to reduce the moisture content in the ores, allowing it to maintain production levels despite the monsoon, it said.
Pertinently, in FY23, NMDC also increased its evacuation capacity, indicating its dedication to boosting its production capacity.
Amitava Mukherjee, the CMD, Additional Charge, stated that NMDC’s success in exceeding 41 MnT of iron ore production demonstrates the company’s strength, resilience, and unwavering commitment to ensuring mineral security.
“The company’s record-breaking Q4 production in FY23 has positioned it for a promising start to FY24,” he said.
