JAMMU, Feb 26: The National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS) JKUT organized a daylong convention at Guru Nabha Dass Community Centre at Dogra Hall in Jammu on Sunday, advocating for the reinstatement of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).
Attended by hundreds of delegates from various districts of Jammu Kashmir, the convention underscored the pressing need to restore the previous pension system for Government employees.
NMOPS, a prominent national-level organization championing the cause of Government employees, particularly emphasized the plight of those impacted by the New Pension System (NPS).
UT President NMOPS-JK, Mohammad Ashraf, presided over the convention, alongside key figures including President JKEEGA PDD Sachin Tickoo, and State Chairman JKTF Mohammad Amin Khan.
Addressing the audience, trade union leaders collectively echoed the sentiment for the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme, denouncing NPS as detrimental to the retirement prospects of Government workers.
President Mohammad Ashraf criticized NPS as a disservice to employees, urging the intervention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to address the grievances of Jammu Kashmir UT employees.
Highlighting the disparity in the introduction of NPS, NMOPS emphasized that while it was implemented in other parts of the country in 2004, Jammu and Kashmir adopted it in 2010.
This discrepancy, the organization argued, has left employees disillusioned and financially insecure post-retirement.
Senior Vice-President Vishal Manhas reiterated the legitimate demand for the restoration of OPS, further galvanizing support for the cause.
The convention also saw contributions from other dignitaries including Mir Bashir Ahmed, Raman Sharma, and Dr Karamjeet Singh, among others.
