NEW DELHI, Nov 6: Refuting reports that he has agreed to perform at a concert in Jaipur next month, Pakistani singer Ghulam Ali today said he has no concerts planned in India as of now.
“If someone has given any date(s) that I will perform in India he must have done it by himself. I have made no promise or given any dates for any concert next month in Jaipur”, Ghulam Ali told Geo TV channel . The singer had to earlier cancel his concerts in Mumbai and Pune last month amid protests by Shiv Sena.
”At the moment no concerts are planned in India. I don’t think the environment is conducive right now for me to perform in India,” the singer said. “I have received lot of love in India, at the moment I don’t like to be dragged into politics”, the legendary singer said.
The singer had agreed to perform in Mumbai and Pune on the fourth death anniversary of late Indian Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh before the Shiv Sena protests scuttled his visit to the country. The Shiv Sena has also threatened to disrupt the singer’s Jaipur concert.
Mr Ali on the protests by Shiv Sena said, “I am a firm believer that by having regular contacts in cricket and culture, relations get better between both the countries. I think the Shiv Sena has acted and spoken according to their background”.
Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt said to a TV channel that he felt ashamed at the treatment meted out to the famed singer. (UNI)
