NEW DELHI : No decision has been taken by the government to repeal the controversial AFSPA as recommended by the Jeevan Reddy Committee Report, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said today.
“No, Sir. On security matters, Government of India carefully evaluates the situation on the ground before taking any decision,” the Minister of State for Home Affairs said in Rajya Sabha.
He was replying a question on whether government has officially taken a decision on the implementation of the recommendations of the Jeevan Reddy Committee Report on Armed Forces (Special Powers) Acts (AFSPA).
The committee had recommended to repeal the AFSPA.
Rijiju said representations have been received from time to time from different organisations and NGOs from Manipur for withdrawal, and from Jammu and Kashmir government for phased withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act. (PTI)
