JAMMU, Dec 9: Senior leader of National Conference and former Minister, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra has strongly condemned the BJP Government at the Centre and also Jammu and Kashmir Government for stopping developmental activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
He slammed BJP for squeezing funds for developmental activities in the name of New Jammu and Kashmir and asked: “Is this BJP’s New Jammu and Kashmir with no developmental activities.”
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir are already feeling duped by BJP Govt for downgrading State to Union Territory and further developmental activities have been stopped. Sometime back, BJP announced for completing languishing projects but to utter surprise, it was only public consumption and media hype. To substantiate, the Sports Stadium in Marh and Multipurpose Community Centre at Marh Assembly constituency are glaring examples of giving only media hype as the said works are languishing,” said Sadhotra in a statement, issued here today
The NC leader further alleged that BJP Govt was not releasing funds under MGNREGA for developmental activities in Rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir while thousands of crores of liability was still pending.
“BJP Govt also gave media hype to Panchayat elections but has made mockery of the basic democratic institutions by pushing them towards the wall and day has come when even the BJP Sarpanchs and Panchs are agitating by resorting to hunger strike in Jammu for getting liabilities of crores of rupees cleared, enhancement of their monthly wages and for their adequate security,” he said and stressed that being largest democracy of the world, we should make all efforts to further strengthen basic grass root democratic institutions instead of weakening them.
Sadhotra demanded immediate release of funds for clearing liabilities of all the departments, Rural Development, R&B and Irrigation besides release of fresh funds for further expediting developmental activities. Otherwise people shall feel alienated as they are already hurt on downgrading State to Union Territory, which is not in the national interest, he added.
