JAMMU, May 27: Due to some fault erupted yesterday in RO Plant of Government Super Speciality Hospital (SSH) Jammu, dialysis operations remain suspended on second consecutive day today with dialysis patients suffering and moving to private hospitals/dialysis centers.
Official sources told Excelsior that several patients, particularly from rural areas of Jammu who were unaware of suspension of dialysis operations in the hospital, reached Nephrology Department of the Hospital for dialysis but they were turned away and told by the doctors to make some alternate arrangement for at least three days as there is least hope of early start of dialysis operation in the hospital.
Vikram Kumar, a young man hailing from Domana area of Jammu, who reached SSH Jammu today with his ailing father for the latter’s dialysis, said that doctors at SSH Jammu told them to wait for at least three days or go to some private hospital as their case is not so emergency but on the other hand they told some other patients to wait as the hospital will make some arrangement for their dialysis outside.
Meanwhile, Principal and Dean, GMC Jammu, Dr Nasib Chand Digra said that the spare part of the RO Plant is being carried out in a special vehicle of J&K Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (JKMSCL) in which RT-PCR kits for COVID-19 tests are being transported to Jammu. He said that the part may reach here by tomorrow morning.
Dr Digra informed that a technician of the company with which SSH Jammu has done AMC/CMC of the RO Plant also left for Jammu this morning in a separate vehicle from Delhi and the travel pass for J&K by the office of Divisional Commissioner has been sent to him. He said as soon as the technician reaches Jammu and replaces the faulty part, the dialysis operations will be started in the hospital.
However, sources said the Dialysis Unit of SSH Jammu could not be made functional before Friday afternoon as the company technician has to come from Delhi via road transport and amid travel restrictions and checking by the police and paramilitary personnel on every point, it is difficult for him to reach Jammu before tomorrow evening and after reaching here, he will take some time to replace the faulty part and then at least one day for testing the functioning of the RO Plant.
Dr Digra further informed that today four very sick patients who were in urgent need of dialysis, were send in an ambulance from SSH Jammu to ASCOMS & Hospital Sidhra for dialysis and as agreed yesterday by ASCOMS management, they were given dialysis after 2 PM.
