JAMMU, May 1: There seems to be no end to public resentment in Jammu region against the worst ever power crisis which the people are facing for last one month in entire J&K. To express their anger people took to streets at different places showing their strong resentment against the failure of Government in improving the power supply in the UT.
Apni Party provincial president Jammu and former Minister, Manjit Singh today expressed anguish over the continuous unscheduled power cuts and disruption of water supply system in the rural belt in border areas of Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts.
Chairing a monthly meeting of the Apni Party leaders and workers, Manjit Singh listened to the grievances of the people which mostly reflected their difficulties due to the unscheduled power cuts and irregular water supply in the villages and towns as the farmers were among the worst sufferers.
After hearing them patiently, Manjit Singh said that it was unfortunate that the PDD had not realized the problems being faced by the people due to unscheduled power cuts.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Sandeep Singh Chib led party activists today held strong protest outside PDD Chief Engineer, Distribution Office Bagwati Nagar. Speaking on the occasion, Chib, said people of J&K are simmering against the long and unscheduled power outages which have thrown normal life out of gear across Jammu and Kashmir, BJP Government is still unmoved despite the fact that throughout J&K people have been hitting the streets for the last many days on regular basis.
Chib claimed that with temperatures rising across the Union Territory, the local administration, which is run directly by New Delhi, is able to cater to only around 50% of the power demand, a part of which goes into powering the 24X7 transmission lines for hospitals, key irrigation stations and official buildings, leaving most commoners high and dry. He said situation is especially bad in rural areas, which received four to six hours daily supply in intervals that last from a few minutes to a maximum of a couple of hours.
The power shortage has also impacted patient care of thousands of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and other home-bound patients who survive on oxygen concentrators, Chib added.
State president of Hindustan Shiv Sena (HSS) Vikrant Kapoor has expressed deep concern over the unscheduled power cuts and strongly criticized the LG administration and PDD officials. He urged the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha to immediately issue instructions to the PDD officials to deal with the crisis.
He was addressing the press conference here, today. He criticized the LG administration for the unprecedented situation during the peak Summer. He said that the common man is facing nightmarish experience with no proper schedule of the power in the region which is unacceptable as people were expecting round the clock supply under the LG’s administration.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders staged protest against the UT administration in Raipur area of Bantalab against the ongoing severe power crisis.
Aam Aadmi Party strongly attacked the Government regarding the serious power crisis going on in the UT. In this protest led by Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha constituency in charge, Amit Kapoor, AAP leaders accused the UT Government of failing on every front.
Addressing the presence, Amit Kapoor said that there has been an unprecedented power crisis in the UT for the past several days, but the entire focus of the administration was on Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s rally. In this Rally more than Rs 100 crore were spent but steps were not taken to buy power.
