JAMMU, Nov 24: Senior BJP leader and Councillor of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Rajinder Sharma has said that his party will leave no stone unturned to get the ongoing demolition drive stopped in the city as the traders are being victimised by the same.
In a news conference here today Sharma said that presently two drives are being carried out by JMC-demolition drive and the one of drawing yellow lines outside shops in the city.
He said that demolition of a shop in Nanak Nagar’s Shiva Ji Chowk area raised hue and cry and triggered protests in which Chamber of Commerce and Industry also joined.
The BJP leader claimed that as per JMC Act the Commissioner was not authorised to start demolition drive without the consent of the General House of JMC.
“The JMC Commissioner has violated JMC Act and also undermined PM’s commitment to strengthen local bodies,” he maintained adding that under Section 50 of JMC Act the Commissioner should have taken permission from the General House before starting demolition drive.
