No one will be allowed to encroach wakf land: Aijaz

SRINAGAR, Sept 10: Minister of State for Haj and Auqaf Aijaz Ahmad Khan has said nobody would be allowed to encroach the wakf land or grab the wakf property in the State.
The Minister said this while chairing 12th meeting of Jammu and Kashmir State Wakf Council (JKSWC) here today.
The Vice Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council, Muhammad Yousuf Taing, Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Muhammad Bashir-u-Din Ahmad, members of Wakf Council, Secretary, J&K Wakf Council Bashir Ahmad Runiyal, Chief Executive Officer-cum- Special Officer, Auqaf Javeed Ahmad Balwan, Administrators of Auqaf Jammu, Shadara Sharief, Thanamandi, Rajouri, Auqaf Samba and R S Pura besides senior officers of Haj and Auqaf Department attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed, threadbare, the various issued pertaining to wakf property in the State. The members of the Wakf Council raised some issues pertaining to utilization of wakf land, settlement of land cases, creation of infrastructure on wakf land and leasing out wakf property for generating income at various places in the State.
The Council approved ratification of the allotment of 14 marlas wakf land at Chand Nagar, Jammu, in an open auction, at the rate of Rs 72 lakh per anum, development of Eidgah at Sidrah By-Pass Road, Jammu, on 6 kanal wakf land at an estimated cost of Rs 42.62 lakh, construction of mosque at Ziyarat Panjpeer, Rajouri, construction of shopping complex and Auqaf Office at main market, Rajouri, ratification of land already leased out in favour of some individuals, construction of shopping complex at Kishtwar and renewal of lease in favour of Darul-Uloom, Gujar Nagar, Jammu.
The Council also approved establishment of one Polytechnic College at Ismailpur, Samba, for which 100 kanals wakf land is available and the amount which has been received from the Government on account of acquisition of wakf land notified for widening of Jammu -Pathankote National Highway, will be utilized by the Wakf Coucil for the purpose.
It was disclosed in the meeting that that Wakf Council has taken up prestigious project of construction and upgradation of Jamia Masjid, Talab Khatikan, on which an amount of Rs 16.00 crore is being incurred. The meeting was informed that due to proposed expansion of the mosque and upgradation of the area, some hotels and shopkeepers would be affected and the measures are being taken to rehabilitate the affected people at an earliest.
The Minister directed all Tehsil Wakf Committees to submit their budget proposals to the Chief Executive Officer within one month for approval. He said that 5% saving is mandatory for the Tehsil Committees.
