RAJOURI, Dec 6: Former Minister and MLA Rajouri, Shabir Ahmed Khan today said that no political party shall be allowed to scrap Article 370.
Addressing a public meeting at Keri in Doongi Block of Rajouri constituency, Shabir Khan said that the special status granted by the Constitution to the J&K State was a historical necessity in view of the circumstances and realties of the situation that led to the partition of the country post-independence nation building efforts. Scrapping Article 370 is impossible and no political party shall be allowed to do so, he added.
He further said that it is unfortunate that the Parliamentary elections in many areas were driven by a communal polarization and it would be necessary to reverse this trend in the ongoing Assembly elections, for building a modern welfare State.
He reiterated that there are strong indicators that the Congress is headed for victory in the Assembly elections as Ghulam Nabi Azad played a role of mentor during his tenure as Chief Minister and Union Minister.
Congress veteran, Mukul Wasnik, former Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment and general secretary, AICC, said Congress is the only party which could stop the BJP’s rise in the State and his party with the support of the people would defeat the designs to dilute the distinct identity of the State.
Wasnik said that Congress is secular and pro-people party which remained in power for 10 years and launched a number of people friendly schemes for the welfare of public at the Centre.
While speaking on the occasion Abdul Majeed Wani said that Shabir Khan always remained in touch with the public and their issues. He was the only Minister who used to fight for construction of new roads and building in his constituency, which is the reason Rajouri was recorded among top seven constituencies of the State.
