No proposal to increase honorarium of anganwadi workers-helpers in J&K

SRINAGAR: There is no proposal under consideration of the government to increase the honorarium of anganwadi workers and helpers and make it at par with Punjab, Haryana and Tamil Nadu.
However, the Aganwadi centres room rent charges have already been enhanced by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development (UMWCD), Minister for Social Welfare Sajjad Gani Lone said.
Replying to a question by Ramesh Arora in the Legislative Council, the minister said there is no proposal under the consideration of the government to pay the wages to Angandwari workers and helpers at par with the rates being paid in Punjab and Haryana , where they are getting Rs 5500 and Rs 2500 per month respectively.
The minister said that there is also no plan to pay wages to Anganwadi workers at par with Tamil Nadu, where their wages are equal to class IV employee.
Mr Lone said that Anganwadi workers and helpers are getting montly honorarium at the rate of Rs 3600 and Rs 1840 per month respectively. However, he said, the state government constribution is Rs 900 per month and the Central Government contribution is Rs 2700 per month for Aganwadi workers.
He informed that the Anganwadi centres room rent charges stand already enhanced by the UMWCD from Rs 750 to Rs 3000 in cities and from 200 to Rs 750 in villages. However, this increase is subject that the house owner provides 600 square feet area for an Anganwadi centre, he said. (AGENCIES)
