Srinagar, June 1: Government today said it will conduct a survey on the number of daily wagers and how they were inducted before drafting policy for their regularisation.
In a written reply to a question of MLA Asgar Ali Karbalai in Lower House, the Minister Incharge Finance, said the policy for the regularization of daily rated workers/ work charged employees notified Vide SRO 64 dated 24.03.1994 is already in place.
“The policy is applicable to daily rated workers/ work charged engaged prior to 31.01.1994 in all Government departments including State PSUs irrespective of the place/ district to which these workers belong”, the Minister said. He said 677 daily-rated workers have been regularised in various departments of district Kargil from 1994 till date.
In his supplementary question, the MLA Asgar Ali Karbalaie asked when Government was going to regularise the daily wagers in Kargil and whether there is any policy in place for them. The Minister said that it is not a problem pertaining to a specific area but is a State-level issue and Government is intended to device a policy which should cater to daily wagers of all the State.
“There are more than 14 categories of daily wagers and we will estimate their total number, how they have been inducted and will develop our policy accordingly. We are looking forward to come up with a policy for them,” the Minister added.
