No surprises expected in coming budget: Mercedes-Benz India

NEW DELHI, Jan 25 : The government is expected to go for policy consistency and there may not be surprises in the coming interim Budget, said Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director & CEO Santosh Iyer. Iyer said he expects capex on infrastructural projects to continue, aiding the automotive sector. “The policy push for green mobility should remain a key focus for the government, encouraging faster adoption of electric vehicles. The luxury car industry has significant value contribution to the GDP and our wish for a rationalized duty structure and GST stays on priority,” he said on Thursday. He added, “Overall, we expect consistency in various policies and no surprises in the upcoming budget.” Sharing his pre-Budget expectations, Rajesh Sharma, Managing Director at Capri Global Capital also said that major policy changes may not be on the cards. “As we approach the 2024 Interim Budget, we hold optimism for a fiscally astute and forward-looking plan. While major policy changes might not be in the cards, we expect the budget aims to support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and stay on fiscal consolidation path,” he said. Sharma said that he expects the budget to acknowledge and encourage fintech’s role in helping small businesses with the goal to create a friendly environment for businesses in India’s changing economy. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman would present the interim budget on February 1. (UNI)
