SRINAGAR, Nov 19: All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and Member of the Legislative Assembly from Dooru, G A Mir, today dismissed rumours of tension within the National Conference-Congress alliance regarding the special status resolution, saying that there was nothing wrong with the resolution.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in Anantnag, Mir clarified that the resolution was passed in the Assembly during a brief session without any debate.
“There is no such tension. In the situation in which the resolution came, there was not much debate. It was a short session. The 20th will pass tomorrow, and after that, maybe we will sit together,” he said. “But if you look at it from the inside, the resolution is not wrong in any way.” Click here to watch video
When asked about the restoration of statehood, he said it depends on the Central Government’s sincerity. “They say something and do something else. We had repeatedly said that when they bifurcated the state and converted it into Union Territories, a commitment was made by the Prime Minister that first there would be delimitation, then elections, and after the elections, discussions would be held with representatives to restore the statehood,” he said.
He added that the process was now at a stage where delimitation and elections had been completed and the government had been formed. “This resolution was sent for that. If you have seen, it states that we are ready for negotiations and the restoration of the state,” he said.
