BASHOLI, June 6: About 250 families in village Sandhar and its adjoining areas here in district Kathua have been badly affected due to no water supply for the last nine days.
Residents of the village said that they have to travel more than a kilometer to reach river Ravi to get water for household chores as almost all the sources of natural water in the village have dried up in this hot weather.
“It is painful to see our children and women carrying pots and travelling long distance in these scorching sunny days to get water,” Mahadev Singh-a social worker in the village informed.
Other villagers said, the village gets water supply from a nearby PHE supply station where the pumping motor has been damaged for the last over one week leaving all the 250 families to suffer in these hot sunny days.
The PHE supply station use to pump water of Charal Nallah to the village.
Kalyan Singh-Sarpanch of the village informed that he repeatedly called the concerned JE and other officials of Jal Shakti Department about the issue but nothing fruitful resulted.
He said that the PHE station should have a standby motor for emergency use so that the public should not suffer in case the existing motor develops some snag.
The irate people of the village have said that if the water supply to their village is not restored within a day then they will block Bani-Basohli road.
