Nobody should misuse ‘Dera’ for political gains: JKSCC

JAMMU, Sept 28: All Jammu and Kashmir Sikh Coordination Committee (JKSCC) has said that Shiromani Dera Nangali Sahib stands as a place of equality for all, and no organization or individual should misuse its name for the political or electoral gains.
Talking to media persons here today Ajit Singh, Chairman, flanked by other members of the Committee, said that recently some organizations have declared their support to some political parties and some opposed, but in a democratic set up they are free to do so and they all respect their right. But a few days ago, a self proclaimed leader misrepresented the Sikh community by making inappropriate references to the religious person like Mahant Manjit Singh, the head priest of Shiromani Dera Nangali Sahib, Poonch.
JKSCC leader further said, ” Dera Nangali Sahib stands as significance pillar of Sikhism in J&K and we maintain our steadfast adherence to Mahant Manjit Singh teachings and guidance.”
Ajit Singh further said that a delegation from JKSCC met the Mahant Sahib on Friday and sought clarification on the subject. Mahant Sahib, unequivocally rejected the false claim attributed to him.
“Mahant has issued a clear and loud message to all stating that– Shiromani Dera Nangali Sahib is the place of equality for all and no organization or individual should misuse its name for political or electoral gains,” Ajit Singh quoting Dera head priest said.
He also projected some achievements of the JKSCC including implementation of Anand Marriage Act, nomination of a Sikh member in JKPSC, extension of benefits under section 254-C to migrant Sikhs, installation of statue of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur in Jammu.
Several members Surat Singh Toofani, Avtar Singh Khalsa, Fateh Singh, Paramjit Singh, Gurjeet Singh Balwant Singh and others were also present.
