Non availability of ration a major problem in lockdown: Manohar

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, May 3: Former Minister and president DCC Kathua, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma said people of various villages aren’t receiving ration which is further adding to their woes during this lockdown period.
While interacting with Sarpances and Panches of different villages such as Dingaamb, Nagrota Gujroo, Durang, Kishanpur, Lehri, Dungara, Mahroon, Dhanu parole, Lakhri and Billawar, Dr Sharma said all of them complained of non-availability of ration to the BPL families.
He further said that nearly 70-80 percent families under Below Poverty Line (BPL) category of these areas were deprived to get ration as their names have been stuck down from the list by the department concerned and termed it as unjustified especially in this difficult hour of nationwide lockdown.
He alleged that pick and choose method was adopted to finalize the list as the persons who were under BPL category two months back has now been struck off the list. Dr Sharma termed the distribution of ration among BPL is merely eyewash as only 20-30 percent poor are getting ration under the schemes in these villages.
He requested the department concerned and the District administration to look into matter on urgent basis. Sharma also appreciated the efforts of the District administration in fighting against the deadly virus and requested the people to follow the guidelines in letter and spirit for COVID-19 containment.
He once again requested the Government to run special trains for bringing stranded people outside the J&K by following proper precautions and SOPs, announced by WHO.
