SRINAGAR, Aug 9: Upset over the repeated callousness, and the lack of responsiveness from the Centre as well as the Union Territory administration of Jammu & Kashmir, the non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits have decided to take a final step in order get their issues resolved.
The non-migrants are demanding jobs for 600 unemployed educated youth, which are already recommended by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India from time to time, and clear-cut directions issued by the High Court.
Notably, as per the census carried out the by the Government, there are 808 non-migrant Kashmiri Pandit families living in Kashmir and MHA had recommended preferably one job per family and also the High Court has issued orders with regard to adjusting 561 unemployed educated youths-as per the Govt Census-through the PM’s Job Package.
The KP leader Sanjay K. Tickoo said in a communication issued that every mean and medium is used to “sabotage” the process and push the non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits to the wall so that we leave Kashmir of our own to implement “some hatred political agenda.”
While talking to EXCELSIOR, he said that since August 5 last year, the community is being ignored like anything. “This is happening despite clear court orders with regard to the implementation of PM’s Job Package for non-migrant Kashmiri pandits,” he said.
They are also demanding monthly cash relief for 808 families living in Kashmir Valley and preservation, restoration and renovation of all temples, the holy springs and cremation grounds in Kashmir as already directed by the High Court in the petitions filed by Kashmiri Pandit Sangarash Samiti.
Tickoo said that the Disaster Management Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Department (DMRR&R) is playing the spoilsport in all this and is not ready to implement the orders issued by the High Court.
It is to be mentioned here that the previous Commissioner Secretary, DMRRR&R Pandurang K. Pole had agreed to the requests to send already apportioned 500 posts to Service Selection Board as per qualifications to initiate the process of selection of candidates from non-migrant Kashmiri Pandit community in light of recommendations made by the MHA.
“We feel ignored, we feel left out because nobody is listening to us. In the month of June on only, we have sent hundreds of communications in and out of J&K, but we have got nothing,” Tickoo said.
Feeling disheartened, the community has decided to start fast-unto-death if the Government does not come to the forefront and resolve the issues they are facing.
“Now that nobody is listening to us-don’t know why, we will be going on fast-unto-death to attract the attention of those at the helm of affairs,” he said.
He also added that Non-Migrant Kashmiri Pandits will be giving an ultimatum of 10 days to the Government on Monday-asking it to put an end to their grievances by fulfilling their demands.
“In the meantime, we will also try to meet the LG and if the Government fails in getting our issues resolved in these 10 days, we will be forced to go for harsher ways to make ourselves heard,” he said.
He said that scores of people from the community are ready to join them in the fast-unto-death.
