Normal life returns in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Dec 5: Normal life returned to old city areas of Srinagar following lifting of curfew after a peace march by the Shia-Sunni Unity Committee in the curfew bound areas of Srinagar yesterday.
Authorities today lifted curfew from Naid Kadal, Hawal, Bohri Kadal, Rajouri Kadal, Gojwara, Nowhatta, Zadibal, Alamgari Bazar areas following under the police stations of Nowhatta, Zadibal and Urdu Bazar.
The Shia-Sunni Unity Committee formed by Chairman of the Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Omar yesterday took out a peace march through the curfew bound areas from Mirwaiz Manzil in Rajouri Kadal to worst hit sectarian clashes area of Zadibal.
It was followed by curfew relaxation last evening and lifting of curfew in the morning. Shops and business establishment opened in the morning after a week and traffic was plying normally.
Curfew in Nowhatta, MR Gunj, Safakadal, Khanyar, Rainawari, Nigeen, Lal Bazaar, Zadibal and Parimpora police station areas of Srinagar was imposed on last Wednesday following sectarian clashes in Hawal area of Srinagar.
It was later lifted on last Saturday following improvement in the situation but was re-imposed on Saturday evening in Zadibal, Nowhatta and Urdu Bazar police stations of Srinagar after fresh clashes on Saturday took place.
