SRINAGAR, Dec 17: Northern Army Commander Lt General Ranbir Singh today reviewed security situation in Kashmir after recent counter militancy operations including one in which three militants, a soldier and seven civilians were killed in Pulwama district of South Kashmir.
The Army Commander was briefed by Chinar Corps Commander, Lt Gen AK Bhatt, at Badami Bagh Cantonment on the overall situation in Kashmir. He was also briefed about major operational, informational, logistical and administrative aspects pertaining to the Corps.
Lt General Bhatt also briefed the Army Commander about the Pulwama operation in which seven civilians were killed during the clashes after the gun battle was over.
The Army Commander visited the forward areas in the frontier districts of Kupwara and Baramulla, where he was briefed by the Commanders on ground on the operational preparedness. He asked the troops to maintain tight vigil along the LoC where from despite strengthening of the Counter-Infiltration Grid over 124 militants managed to sneak in the first 10 months of the year.
Lt General Singh asked the troops not to lower the guard along the LoC even during the winter as militants are still trying to infiltrate into Kashmir through snow.
During his interaction with the troops in the frontier districts, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh lauded their professionalism, sharp vigil along the Line of Control and high morale and exhorted them to remain alert for any eventuality.
Later in the day, the Army Commander visited hinterland formations in South Kashmir and was briefed about the current situation and recent counter militancy operations. The Army Commander complimented the troops for their remarkable successes in eliminating militant leadership from South Kashmir and also commended them for their dedication to duty.
The Army Commander lauded the excellent synergy amongst all the security forces and asked all ranks to maintain a safe, secure and peaceful environment for the people of Kashmir.
