SRINAGAR, Sept 8: Stating that he is not afraid of the administration former Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu declared today that he will fight against the BJP and its “appendages” until his last breath.
Addressing a press conference alongside former Deputy Mayor Sheikh Imran, Junaid accused the BJP of being “anti-Muslim” and lacking a positive agenda for Muslims.
“We are unequivocally opposed to the BJP. However, since we began vocalizing this stance, the administration has resorted to petty tactics to suppress us, including sending eviction notices and threatening to withdraw my security cover,” he said.
Junaid explained that the administration informed him about his ‘Z’ category security, citing a threat. “If the LeT has informed you (the administration) that they won’t kill me, then go ahead and withdraw my security,” he added.
Junaid stated that they aim to earn the people’s trust and have committed to the “politics of pride.”
He also criticized the NC for labeling Jamaat and Er Rashid as proxies. “Who is making these claims? Those who allied with Ikhwan and gave MLC seats to counter insurgents. I don’t agree with JeI, but why target everyone who opposes you,” he added.
Junaid also claimed that the administration has labeled him as a “hardline radical Islamist.” “My identity is that I am a Muslim first and then an Indian. If that hurts anyone, I don’t care,” he said.
