Not consulted by J&K govt on separatest leader’s release: Centre

NEW DELHI :  Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah  Naidu today said the Centre was not consulted on the release of  Hurriyat leader Masarat Alam by the Jammu & Kashmir government.     He said in the Lok Sabha that Home Minister Rajnath Singh will give a clarification in this regard at noon,    The issue of Hurriyat hardliner Alam’s release from Baramullah jail by the PDP-BJP led government in Jammu and Kashmir rocked the Lower House with the Opposition forcing an adjourment.
As soon as the House assembled, Members from Opposition benches, including Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue. He demanded for suspension of Question Hour and pressed for a statement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.    Mr Naidu tried to pacify the Opposition saying the Centre was not party as it was not consulted on the move and the Home Minister would make a statement on the issue.    Speaker Sumitra Mahajan rejected the notices for Adjournment Motion but allowed Mr Kharge to speak on the issue.    Mr Kharge said, “This is a serious issue pertaining to national security as the Jammu and Kashmir government has released the ‘anti-national’ Masrat Alam from Baramullah jail on  March 7.
“The terrorist was involved in many serious cases. He has close relations with many LeT and other terrorist group leaders.”
