HYDERABAD, Oct 19: All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) and Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) on Saturday informed the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) that it would not be possible to reconsider the call for a Nation-wide Strike by the employees on October 22.
“While we deeply appreciate your (IBA) concern about customer services and your initiative to avert the strike, we regret that at this stage, with no development from the side of the Union Government to address the issues raised by them, it would not be possible to reconsider our call for strike”, AIBEA General Secretary Ch Venkatachalam and BEFI General Secretary Debasish Basu jointly said in a letter to IBA CEO V G Kannan.
They said ‘we are in receipt of your letter dated 15-10-2019 in response to our Strike Notice dated 19-9-2019. At the outset, we would like to appreciate IBA for taking cognizance of the strike notice and for making the appeal to us to avert the strike unlike the past when strike notice by unions used to be ignored by IBA.
As you know, we have given the call for strike on Stop merger of banks, Stop banking reforms,
Ensure recovery of bad loans, Take stringent action on defaulters, Do not harass customers with penal charges, Do not increase service charges, Increase interest rate on Deposits, Stop attacks on jobs and job security and adequate recruitments in all the Banks.
About 3.5 lakh employees in AIBEA and BEFI will take part in the strike. (UNI)
