KOLKATA/RAIGANJ, Nov 13: Two sacks of torn notes and Rs 1.60 crore in cash, both in the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 which had been demonetised, were seized from two ends of West Bengal, police said today.
Two sacks with torn and damaged currency notes of old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 stacked in them were recovered from a garbage vat in the southern part of the city’s Golf Green area this morning.
Police said local people spotted the sacks in the vat on Golf Club Road in Jadavpur police station limits.
Policemen recovered the sacks after being informed.
“We are examining these notes and trying to find out their origin. We are checking the CCTV footages in the surroundings,” a police officer said.
In North Dinajpur district in north Bengal, the police seized Rs 1.60 crore in Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes from a private car on NH-34 under Itahar police station area last night.
Four occupants of the car coming from Malda were arrested, district police said.
They were released on bail by a Raiganj court today. (PTI)
