Noted journalist passes away

Srinagar, Jan 19: Veteran journalist, Editor and owner of Urdu daily ‘Wadi Ki Awaaz’, Ghulam Nabi Shaida, today breathed his last at his Srinagar residence. Shaida was unwell for the last several years.
His body, as per his wishes, was taken to Pulwama where he was buried in his ancestral graveyard in village Goripora of the district.
He is survived by a daughter who happens to live in Srinagar while his wife expired in 2015.
The demise of GN Shaida has been widely condoled by every section of the society, while as his death is being termed as a huge loss to the Valley journalism. He was jailed during for his work in ‘80s.
Kashmir Editors Guild (KEG) in a statement condole his demise and said that he was an upright person who would always be unbiased in his work and would always strive for the betterment of media institutions in Kashmir.
Senior journalist, Yousuf Jameel, who was the first one to break the news of Shaida’s death, said that he was a professional and a great man.
“A brave and upright journalist, Shaida faced hardships and multiple challenges for his journalistic work. His passing away is a loss to institution of journalism. The management committee at KPC joins his colleagues and journalist fraternity to remember Shaida sahib for his honesty and holding to professional demands amid challenging situation”, Kashmir Press Club said.
The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Party President, Member of Parliament Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah also expressed profound grief over the demise of Shaida.
