Notorious criminal, aide held: Police

JAMMU, July 22: Police in Akhnoor area here claimed they have arrested a notorious criminal and his associate in connection with a brutal assault on a youth at Chandian Ghat, Akhnoor, last Saturday.
According to police, the accused identified as Vishal Sharma alias Vishu of Galwaday, Tehsil Marh, and Vikash Singh alias Vinay alias Beera of Bomal, Tehsil Akhnoor, were part of a group of five people who attacked Sanjeev Kumar, a resident of Palwan Akhnoor, on Saturday night using sharp-edged weapons.
Following the incident, police said a case FIR number 134/2024 Under Sections 109/115(2)/191(2)/191(3) of the BNS and 4/25 of the Arms Act was registered at Police Station Akhnoor and a manhunt launched to nab the accused.
During a raid conducted at Ring Road area of Bawe Tallab Village by a police team headed by SHO Akhnoor, Inspector Tariq Ahmed under the supervision of SDPO Akhnoor, Mohan Sharma, they said, two criminals wanted in the case were successfully arrested with the recovery of the weapons used in the crime from their possession.
The raids were closely monitored by SP Rural Brijesh Sharma.
Further investigation into the case is underway to arrest the other accused wanted in the case.
