JAMMU, Jun 26: A notorious drug peddler was booked under the PIT NDPS Act at Sikanderpur Kothey area of Bishnah here today.
Liyakat Ali of Sikanderpur Kothey, Bishnah, was booked and lodged in District Jail Udhampur after obtaining formal detention orders from the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, a police official said.
He said the drug peddler was operating from the drug hotspot of Bishnah and by lodging him in Udhampur jail, the main supply chain of drug peddling has been disrupted.
According to him, the accused drug peddler was wanted and booked under several cases in the past as well but he managed to secure bail in all the cases.
Despite registration of several FIRs against him, the accused didn’t mend his ways and continued his involvement in the criminal activities, he said.
This made police recommend a dossier against the criminal which was approved by Divisional Commissioner Jammu for his detention, he added.
Accordingly, the criminal was detained by a team of Police Station Bishnah headed by SHO Bishnah under the close supervision of SDPO RS Pura, SP Headquarters Jammu with overall supervision of SSP Jammu and lodged in District Jail Udhampur.
