JAMMU, July 24: In a significant crackdown, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Nagrota today detained a notorious timber smuggler under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
The accused, Muneer Ahmed of Pangali, Tehsil Nagrota, District Jammu, has long been involved in organized timber smuggling activities, posing a threat to peace and order in the region, a police official said.
He said despite multiple FIRs and arrests, Ahmed’s persistent involvement in criminal activities has continued to disrupt public order, particularly in Nagrota and adjacent areas of Jammu District.
Police records reveal numerous cases registered against him under the Forest Act, he said.
Given the gravity of his offenses and his relentless criminal behavior, the District Magistrate Jammu ordered Ahmed’s detention under Section 8(1)(a) of the J&K Public Safety Act (PSA) 1978, vide order Number 28/2024 dated July 22, 2024. He has been lodged in Kotbhalwal Jail.
The warrant was executed by a police team led by PSI Mashkoor Ahmed and SHO Nagrota, under the supervision of the SDPO Nagrota.
“Action against notorious hardcore criminals is among the top priorities of Jammu Police,” stated the police official.
“This step not only enforces the law but also serves as a preventive measure towards maintaining peace and order.”
