NEW DELHI, Jan 6: A day after the Enforcement Directorate moved a Delhi court to seek a non-bailable warrant against Manoj Arora, an aide of Robert Vadra, in a money laundering case, the BJP on Sunday urged the Congress chief Rahul Gandhi to besiege his brother-in-law to ensure that Arora must cooperate with the probe agencies.
“Even after three summons personal assistant of Robert Vadra – Manoj Arora refused to join the investigation. The ED has requested the court of law to issue an non bailable warrant in the fear that Robert Vadra’s personal assistant will flee justice,” BJP leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani told reporters here.
She said, “Today it is upon us to request Mr Vadra that in the interest of justice, kindly tell your personal assistant to present himself before the ED”.
“I would also join to say that the honourable Congress president besiege his brother in law to ensure that Manoj Arora presents himself before the authorities,” Ms Irani said adding media reports have earlier suggested that during the raids on residence of Sanjay Bhandari, another associate of Robert Vadra, “important, confidential and sensitive” documents of Defence Ministry were found.
The BJP leader’s remarks came after ED sought court’s order for a non-bailable warrant against Arora.
The Enforcement Directorate’s petition alleged that profits from criminal acts were used to fund the purchase of property at 12 Bryanston Square in London worth ?1.9 million for Vadra via the United Arab Emirates. The plea said the investigation was being conducted under the provisions of the Black Money Act. (PTI)
