SRINAGAR, Apr 23: Patients suffering from knee and hip related arthritis can now avail free knee and hip surgery in SKIMS.
In an official statement, the SKIMS Medical College has advised all the patients suffering from knee and hip related arthritis and other diseases to register themselves in the Department of Orthopaedics SKIMS Medical College (JVC) to avail the hip and knee surgeries free of cost except that of implant, which outside the State costs Rs 4 to 5 lakh.
The Department of Orthopaedics in SKIMS Medical College has two doctors Dr NA Mir and Dr Jawed A Bhat trained from world renowned orthopaedic institutions in New York (USA), for the purpose.
Recently, first time total knee replacement surgery was done successfully in SKIMS on a patient namely Ghulam Mohd resident of North Kashmir by Dr Bhat, who was assisted by PG students Dr Ajaz, Ajay Thathoo, Feroz and Zahoor. Anesthesia was given by Dr Basharat Ahad and Mehraj-ud-Din.
Dr Javed has also in his name the first uncemented hip replacement surgery on a patient namely Irshad.
Moreover, a patient sustaining pelvic trauma four years back, was successfully operated in January last year and acetabulum was reconstructed. The surgery went for more than four hours.
