JAMMU, June 10: Chief patron of J&K National Panthers Party (NPP) Prof Bhim Singh has demanded withdrawal of an order making Aarogya Setu App mandatory for travelers, workers, entrepreneurs and others terming it as an arbitrary, unlawful and discriminatory act of Govt of India.
The instructions issued by an order from the Secretary to Govt of India, Ministry of Home Affairs had made compulsion carrying of an Android phone with Aarogya Setu App. No law empowers the Home Secretary to force an Indian to carry an Android phone with him or her with Aarogya Setu App.
Further the Aarogya Setu App invades into personal information of an individual, which is contrary to the law on privacy passed by the Supreme Court of India, he added.
Even such an app being promoted by the Govt of Australia makes penal provisions against the Govt authorities, if found forcing any citizen to use Covid Safe App. The directions on the website of the Govt of Australia says, “No user should feel pressured to install or continue to use COVID Safe, or to agree to upload contact data to the data store. This is prohibited under the Biosecurity determination. If you feel pressured to do any of these things, you can make a complaint to us (Authority), the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, or the Australian Human Rights Commission”.
Bhim Singh said that Govt of India should learn from other countries and make amendment in its order making Aarogya Setu App as mandatory and make it optional.
