JAMMU, Oct 13: National Panthers Student Union (NPSU) activists, led by their president Thakur Varinder Singh, held a demonstration outside the Jammu University campus in protest against the raw deal being given to Dogri language by successive Governments.
The protesters were particularly agitated over the alleged failure of BJP Legislators and ministers to rake up the issue of promotion of Dogri language in the Assembly. They also torched an effigy of the Dy Chief Minister.
Addressing the gathering, Thakur Varinder said that despite Dogri language having been included in the 8th scheduled of the Constitution of India, no steps had been taken by the Government to promote the same. The students, scholars, and other Dogri speaking people of Jammu have been demanding the introduction of Dogri subject in the schools and colleges but nothing was done by the Government despite repeated assurances, he added.
“While Urdu is being given a lot of weightage, Dogri language has been completely neglected. While Kashmir based legislators raked up the issue of promoting Urdu and sought additional Urdu subject posts in schools and colleges, the BJP members failed to espouse the cause of Dogri,” the NPSU leader alleged.
Others, who spoke on the occasion, included Rishi Badyal, Kailash Mohan, Lovely Singh, Shubam Jasrotia, Sourav, Keshav, Asha Rani and Lovedeep.
