NREGA workers go unpaid

MENDHAR, Mar 4: Members of labour class today held demonstration and also blocked road  for about an hour to lodge their protest against the RDD authorities.
The locals belonging to the labour class, under the banner of Kissan Mazdoor Union  assembled at Shahidi Yadgar Mendhar at around 10 am  and held protest demonstration for about three hours. They were alleging that  workers who had executed works under MNREGA in Mendhar area have not been paid their wages by the concerned staff for the last more than one year. They alleged that labourers were engaged for many works but they were not paid for the last more than one year due to the reason best known to the BDOs or other staff.  They alleged that their money has been withdrawn by conducting forgery by some staff members and they are now being told that funds were not available.
The workers raised slogans against RDD Minister Ali Mohd Sagar, Director RDD Jammu and BDOs concerned. They sought the intervention of Chief Minister in this concern.  They also demanded high level inquiry into the matter. Abdul Majid Choudhary was leading the protest. Later, they moved to the road and disrupted movement of traffic for about an hour. SDPO Amit Bhasin then moved to the spot and on his assurance the workers lifted dharna.
