JAMMU, Nov 25: Nrityanjali-a classical dance academy celebrated its ‘Annual Day-Nritya Utsav-22’ at CSIR-IIIM’s CK Atal Auditorium, wherein Vice Chancellor of Jammu University Prof Umesh Rai was the chief guest, here today.
Appreciating the program prepared under the direction of honorary Director-Nrityanjali Dr Priya Dutta, Professor Umesh Rai emphasized the usefulness of ‘Kathak’ dance and its need in today’s time and cited the coordination of music and dance in the new education policy.
Earlier, the program was inaugurated with lighting the traditional lamp by Prof Umesh Rai along with Dr Priya Dutta, Prof Lalit Mangotra, Dr Arvinder Amn, Khalid Hussain, Dr Zabeer Ahmad and Prof Shohab Inayat Malik.
A documentary based on the activities of ‘Nrityanjali’ was also shown, prepared by Danish Sharma, a young member of the Academy. The dance performances started with a ‘Kathak’ based on ‘Shiva Stuti’ by Dr Priya Dutta, followed by a dance based on ‘Birju Maharaj’s Krishna Leela’ by Anandita Dutt.
This was followed by a traditional Kathak dance based on ‘Teen Taal’ by the junior group consisting of Mahira Gupta, Aadhvika Gupta, Riddhi Sharma, Vaishnavi Kapoor, Namya Mangotra, Priyal Kachroo, Prisha Dutta, Pranvi Sanga, Aadya Sharma, Aaradhya Mahajan, Aanandita Dutt, Harshita Khajuria, Sumukhi, Sonakshi Singh, Swara Sharma, Ojasvi Gupta, Aadeesha Kapoor, Aadhya Kapoor, Aanya Singh and Spriha Sharma.
The Kathak Triveni was presented by Lokesh Sharma, Aanchal Miskeen and Kritika Dutt. This was followed by a traditional Kathak performance by the senior group and the ‘Nritya Utsav’ ended with a dance performance based on classical ‘Bandish’ in which Akshay Kumar, Shivam Shukla, Umesh Kumar, RitikaSountra, Sunidhi Banerjee, Sabha Majid, Sonia Devi, Manu Saini, Shivani Kapoor and Ankita Yadav participated.
Rajkumar Behrupia was on ‘Harmonium’ and vocal, Guru Purshotam Kumar on ‘Pakhawaj’, Vijay Kumar on ‘Tabla’ and Akshay Shaminotra on ‘Violin’ made the event successful. The technical support was given by Danish Sharma.
Kritika Dutt and Rajkumar Behrupia presented welcome address and vote of thanks respectively.
