JAMMU, Aug 27: Alleging bungling in the Colleges Development Council (CDC), University of Jammu while extending affiliations to several BEd colleges which are still running without fulfilling the prescribed norms, the National Secular Forum (NSF) has demanded stern action against its Director and Vice Chancellor of the varsity.
Addressing a press conference here today, Dr Vikas Sharma, NSF State president alleged large scale corruption in CDC and mentioned that the links of several BEd colleges were removed from the online admission portal of the varsity owing to their de-affiliation by the University itself but within few days the decision was reverted and allowed to admit students for the upcoming session.
He also alleged that Inspection Committee Reports on BEd colleges were kept under wrap and no action was taken on their observations. “The reports have clearly stated that BEd colleges won’t fulfill prescribed norms hence their affiliation should not be extended. But, the Director of CDC instead of recommending action, playing silently,” he said.
Dr Sharma revealed that BEd Colleges were illegally enrolling students and JU authorities busy in regularizing those which is a height of corruption in the department. “Maximum reports have highlighted that colleges were running without eligible Principals and even students were taking classes,” he added.
The NSF State president also highlighted that there was a strong nexus between the management of private BEd colleges and officials of CDC as most of the time former had prior knowledge about the composition of visiting inspection teams.
Dr Sharma demanded that all those inspection reports should be made available on varsity website and put into public domain so as to bring transparency into the functioning of CDC. He also demanded action on the loopholes highlighted by the committees so that corruption was checked.
He urged the Governor (Chancellor of the University) to take cognizance of the issue and take action against Director CDC and the Vice Chancellor for making CDC a breeding ground of corruption.
