NSF alleges fraud in JU

JAMMU, Aug 16: The fraud being committed by the Jammu University (JU) higher-ups has attained new heights as they have fiddled with the established norms and statutes to an extent that four PhD scholars were enrolled with the teachers of different subjects.
Addressing a press-conference here today, State President National Secular Forum (NSF) Dr Vikas Sharma said that Departmental Research Committee (DRC) of Department of Sociology held a meeting on March 16, 2015 in the office chamber of Vice Chancellor wherein an unprecedented decision was taken to allot non-subject Supervisors to four Ph D candidates of Sociology, which was a fraud with the system.
Dr Sharma disclosed “the DRC meeting resolved that in all, seven candidates were admitted to PhD programme in continuation with their M Phil, four of whom were over and above the intake capacity of the department. The additional candidates were asked to do their research under the supervision of faculty members from other departments. Scholars namely Ankush Gupta was allotted to Prof Renu Nanda (Deptt of Education), Mehnaz to Dr Nagendra Rao (Deptt of Political Science, DDE), Swati Dutt to Dr Virender Koundal (Deptt of Economics) and Priyanka Ganjoo to Dr Monica Narang (The Law School).
Dr Vikas revealed that the Vice Chancellor unilaterally took the decision and asked the committee members including the then Dean of Social Sciences, the then HoD Sociology, Prof Geeta Sumbli, Dr Vishav Raksha, Dr Hema Gandotra and Dr Sumita Sharma to approve the same.
He asked that as to what compelled the Vice Chancellor to go for this out of box decision which compromised with the established norms.
Among those who were present in the press-conference included, Papinder Singh, Rishikesh Rana, and Manmohan Singh.
