JAMMU, July 23: The National Secular Forum (NSF), University Unit, commemorated the 118th birth anniversary of Chander Shekhar Azad at Jammu University.
The event featured slogans such as “Azad Amar Raha,” “Inquilab Zindabad,” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” with activists paying tribute to Azad and garlanding his portrait.
The program was graced by Ankush Abrol, Provincial Joint Secretary JKNC, as the Chief Guest, while Dr Vikas Sharma, Coordinator Jammu District (Urban) and Zonal Secretary JKNC, presided over the function. TR Sharma KAS (Retd) was the Guest of Honour, and Vikshay Vashist, State Secretary NSF, was the Special Guest.
Ankush Abrol praised the NSF’s initiative to honor Azad, recalling how Azad famously gave his name as ‘Azad’, his father’s name as ‘Swatantra’, and his residence as ‘prison’ when arrested.
Dr Vikas Sharma urged the youth to move beyond self-centered outlooks and contribute to national development. He criticized the BJP’s policies, citing growing unemployment and urging support for the J&K National Conference to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.
TR Sharma emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifices of revolutionaries like Azad, who fought for the country’s freedom.
Roshan Sharma, District President, delivered the welcome address, and Mohd Umer Farooq, President University Unit, gave the vote of thanks.
Other speakers included Vineet Gupta, Chairman University Unit, Abhishek Uppal, District Chairman, and Atul Sharma and Arun Singh.
The event highlighted the enduring legacy of Chander Shekhar Azad and the need for youth engagement in nation-building efforts.
