JAMMU, Mar 14: Terming the move to enhance retirement age of Professors in universities of J&K Union Territory as wastage of sources and a big stumbling block for educated unemployed youth, National Secular Forum(NSF) has demanded audit of academic contribution of teaching facility members working in different universities of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a press conference, Dr Vikas Sharma, JKUT President of NSF, said that exercise of academic audit by competent team of experts is imperative to assess the working ability of each teaching faculty member in universities. “There should be work assessment of last 10 years with regard to research work, projects taken in hand, work done and completed and details of classes taken all these years by professors of each university as this will help ascertain their quality and quantity of work done all these years while holding posts drawing hefty salary ranging to lakhs of rupee,” he said.
The NSF president said that before according extension in retirement age of Professors , the overall analysis of their work done for years together through academic audit will substantiate whether he or she can prove as an asset or liability for University vis a vis their capacity and capability to work at the stage beyond 62 years age. He said that without the academic audit of Professors, it will be nothing but a futile exercise to enhance retirement age just to appease University colleagues at the cost of efficiency and effectiveness, besides proving as impediment in the way of well educated and more fresh talented youth, who can instill more vigor and great impetus in academic environment of the Universities.
Vikas further said that enhancing the age of Professors will block the promotional avenues for Assistant Professors and Associate Professors for another three years which would further block new recruitments at Assistant Professor level. “If any Professor is so exceptional then he can get re-employment under the varsity norms. But recommending enhancement in retirement age for all Professors shall be a criminal act against the educated unemployed youth,” he said and urged the Lt Governor of JK UT to take cognizance of this aspect and order academic audit of Professors working in various universities of J&K before considering enhancement of retirement age case of teaching faculty members of universities.
