JAMMU, Mar 29: National Sikh Front (NSF) has demanded naming of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu as Sh. Guru Teg Bahadur Medical College in honour of the great Sikh Guru.
In a press conference here today NSF chairman, S. Varinderjeet Singh said that NSF has written letters in this regard to Prime Minister, RSS Chief, BJP National President and also to a number of other prominent leaders of the ruling party.
He said that in letters they mentioned about the role of Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji in safeguarding the honour of Kashmiri Hindus who visited Guru Ji at Anandpur Sahib and informed him about threat to their religion from Mughal ruler Aurangzeb and Guru Teg Bahadur helped them at the cost of his life.
S. Varinderjeet Singh said that Union government, BJP and RSS are celebrating the 400th Prakash Utsav of Guru Ji with enthusiasm and it will be a real tribute to Guru Ji if some institution is named after him.
“Naming GMC Jammu as Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Medical College will be a great tribute to Guru Ji,” he maintained expressing hope that the Government will concede the demand.
NSF president, Kulwant Singh Bhatti; general secretary, Gurdyal Singh Bali and others were also present on the occasion.
